TÉFRA: Behind the Beauty
TÉFRA was born from a lifelong belief that beauty, health, and nature were never meant to be separate -- place where body, earth, and soul thrive together in goodness, truth, and unity.
I was raised in the Southern California countryside, where much of life happened outdoors — growing food, running barefoot, spending long days in nature, and learning early that the earth provides more than we often realize. My upbringing shaped the way I see life, beauty, and wellness: simple, rooted, practical, and deeply connected to the natural world.
With a childhood foundation built on natural, holistic, living, and an uncanny fascination with chemistry and botany, I knew my path forward would somehow have to incorporate these passions into a comprehensive direction. By 19 years old, I started attending college where I found my love for Biology, and with a Health and Nutrition major, decided to pursue the aspiration of a career as a naturopathic doctor.
But life unfolded differently.
Before I moved out the big city to attend University, I met my husband, and life dramatically shifted directions. Shortly thereafter I became a mother to two beautiful boys, and it was in the years of homesteading that my passion for natural health, wellness, and holisitc-practices became something I lived out every day in my own home — through food, herbs, healing remedies, wholesome ingredients, spiritual guidance, honing my intuitions, and eventually, hand-crafting all-natural skincare.
My first true introduction to “professional” skincare began with soap-making. But what started as a fascination with traditional bar soap, quickly became a deeper study of skin, active ingredients, and cosmetic chemistry formulation. TÉFRA was first named when my original core product was handmade bar soap, and the name made perfect sense: TÉFRA comes from the Greek word for “ashes": a nod to the earliest forms of soap-making, when ashes, fats, and water were transformed into something cleansing and useful.
Over time, what began with bar soap slowly grew and matured into something much larger: a full-scale professional skincare company rooted in ancient wisdom, botanical ingredients, and modern natural formulation.
But for me, the meaning of TÉFRA runs even deeper.
Throughout Scripture, ashes, water, and fat appear again and again at the place of sacrifice — at the altar, where offerings were made before God. Long before soap-making was understood as chemistry, the very elements that would one day be used to cleanse the body were present in sacred places of offering that would ultimately cleanse our soul: ashes from the fire, water for washing, and fat from the sacrifice came together into a rudimentary substance that would later be called "soap", or "sapoúni" in Greek.
That triad has become part of the philosophy behind TÉFRA: a quiet reflection of how creation itself carries meaning. God, who is Triune, made all things with order, purpose, and beauty. A sustaining reminder that even the simplest, most humble elements of the earth can point beyond themselves to deep truth and revelation beyond our physical reality.
For me, soap is more than a practical product. It is a small, earthly picture of cleansing — one that ultimately points to the greater cleansing found in Christ. Just as ashes, water, and fat are transformed into something that cleanses the outer body temporarily, Jesus became the final and perfect sacrifice who cleanses our souls eternally.
